Is The Forex Dream a Lie?

The Forex is an ever-expanding phenomenon and each passing day sees a new influx of ‘newbies’, or Forex beginners seeking to realize the Forex dream. Are these enthusiasts doomed to a big disappointment? Is there a way to lower that highly intimidating statistic of a 90% failure rate? I believe there is!

Alas, many find themselves addicted to the excitement of the very act of trading. They reach a point where they become contented with sub-standard results, as they ‘feed’ off the buzz that often results from putting on a trade. Here, the profit and loss statement falls a distant second to the adrenaline rush.

The most critical point of any trader’s career is at the very beginning. It is then that those damaging habits get entrenched. It is also then that many unrealistic expectations get nurtured. Many people get lured into the business by internet or television advertisements that promise instant riches. The irony of the situation is that Forex trading can be easy. That’s right…It can be. With reasonable expectations and a solid forex education, followed by disciplined trading, many a dream would be fulfilled. Trading in this manner means that it may not feel as exciting as it is when trading as the majority does. It involves hard work and determination, as well as a healthy self-confidence.

Have a great weekend everyone. I appreciate your taking the time to read my articles. Safe trading ’till next week! :)

    Hi Sophia,

Can you provide some concrete numberes according to reasonable expectations? In terms of yearly average compounded profit, maximum drawdown depth (percentage of biggest drawdown ) and maximum drawdown length (in days).
After one year of struggling in manual forex trading I found mechanical trading suitable for me and now I have a definite idea about these numbers but it would be very interesting to know what an experienced discrecionary trader says about these performance parameters.

Well done, Helen. That is great to hear! Simply learning from our mistakes does help a lot. Happy trading :)

Thanks Sophia – after 6 months trading on my own I was beginning to lose the confidence I could actually make this work and that no matter how I tried I was going to end up as one of the 90% failure rate. Now I can recognise the mistakes I have made, the bad trading habits, and now I am sure I can do it.
